When I first moved into my house I knew the first thing that had to go was the flooring, then the property was outfitted with this horrible, brown shag rug, however it looked stained, ugly, plus was worn in spots.
I decided that I wanted to change from rug to tile.
Tile is so much easier to clean plus care for. It looks more classic plus modern. It also would hold up longer plus not go out of style. I did some research plus decided I could do the upgrade myself. I ripped up all the old rugs, removed the pads underneath plus added cement board! Once I was at the cement board I realized I was in the perfect situation to have heated flooring. I already owned a boiler system in my basement. I just had to hook piping to it, have it go throughout the floors, plus put my cement back on top. In fact, cement is best with heated flooring. It does not absorb the heat plus gets wasted. Another benefit is that the heating system is water based plus nothing gets wasted… No warm or chilly spots, heated air rising, or complications with keeping areas warmer. I made sure to call a professional heating corporation to do this upgrade though, even though I got the property prepped to the ideal hydronic heating upgrade spot, I didn’t want to do it; Messing with piping plus my high-priced boiler system was beyond me. Now that everything’s all installed plus finished, I just care about how my house looks plus feels.
